The writer's commentary
I love everything about movies. Everything. I love sitting in dark theaters with warm popcorn and watching the trailers and seeing the lights go down.
But as much as I love going to the movies, I'm beginning to love DVDs too, and the reason might surprise you.
I love the director's commentary!
Yes, I know I’m probably the only person in the world who does this, but can I help it if I crave the inside scoop?
And how cool would it be if there were "writers commentaries" of our favorite books?!? Like I'm dying to know which came first for JK Rowling, Scabbers the rat or Peter Pettigrew the traitor. Ooh. I want to know!
Now I'm wondering if any readers out there have similiar questions about my books?
For example, do you guys care that the Gallagher Academy is named after Gallagher-Iba arena at Oklahoma State University—a place ESPN has consistently called one of the best basketball arenas in the country?
And originally, for some truly bizarre reason, the Gallagher Academy was located outside “Oxsnot,” Virginia--not “Roseville.”
And I first thought Macey would come visit the Gallagher Academy but not stay. And there was a fourth girl named Rachel--before Cammie's mom was Rachel.
But Mr. Solomon? Always Mr. Solomon and always hot.
So if anybody has any questions about the books or how they came to be I'd love to hear them and answer them (if possible.)
Ask away!
Ally

Dear Ally- Miss.Carter. Miss Ally?
Aheh. Im not sure what to call you, i'm sorry. ^^
firstly, i've just finished reading your book, it took me like, about one and a half days to read it- i was like obsessed. I totally love the spies school for girls thing, i read another book about a spy school, but it was kind of the classic evil scientist mutates humans thing.
I've always loved the female spy thing, just never found a book that fits it. but yours does.
Gallagher Academy is just so awesome, if it was real, i would kill to get in. Actually- this was the first book i bought on a whim- hard cover too! I was just looking for summer reading books for my honors course next year, and i guess someone left this book on a random display table and i picked it up. The cover is very cool by the way-its what caught my eye. I read the inside cover and i was hooked.
The high tech stuff and actions and plans and all that complex spy stuff was very well thought up- i myself was getting excited when they had the CoveOps Final. it was awesome!
seriosusly, it would be an awesome movie.
but anyways! on to the actual questions! yeah, im such a rambler.
So was Cammie always going to be the main charecter? Or did she start out as just a friends of the main charecter?
and also, how did you think of Cammies friends? did you base them off of what Cammie wants? Are they opposites on purpose?
And which of the teachers came first?
Are there only like pure americans in the school (besides Bex) or are there like asian americans too? (I remember the name Kim Lee) I dunno, i just think it would be a great advantage for the school if they had like students from China or something, foreign connections right? ^^
does the "girl on the mission" thing something that you like alot?
i really wish i could leave an email address of something, but im parinoid ^^ (my parents think public websites are really dangerous)-Gallagher is my dream school.
i probably talked too long and too much, but it makes me happy anyways that you might be reading this ^^
thanks a bunch,
-Vicky
Hey again,
I wonder who asked what Gallagher Academy came from? LOL, are you back from your trip yet? And I am trying desperatley to get Cheating at Solitaire, I have to go to the other book store because the first one I went to was sold out. Well I should porbably start some of my summer reading...ttyl, hope you had a good trip.
Oh, no, I totally watch movies with director's commentary. It might just be because I someday kind of secretly want to write screenplays and I try to pick up anything I can about moviemaking from the commentary. My biggest pet peeves are a.) when DVDs don't have cool extras, like deleted scenes with commentary or "making of" featurettes, and b.) when the director's commentary is boring, and they say almost nothing, just a lot of "ummmm . . .".
I totally forgot to email you about this, but I read I'd Tell You I Love You But Then I Had To Kill You a week ago and I adored it. I blogged about it as part of my "50 Books Challenge" experience, in way more detail than I could express here. I originally bought it for my sister's birthday and then feverishly read it the night before so that I could wrap it. She's almost done with it and she kept bugging me to tell her the ending, but I refused, which is odd for me because I'm normally a total spoiler.
This was a really long comment, sorry, but just wanted to say that it's not weird to love director's commentary, and your book was great. Keep up the good work!
-Anna
Ally, I just finished Solitaire and have put you on my list of "look for new stuff from" authors. I loved the voice and how you flip flopped the point of view between the main characters. I can hardly wait for Learning Gin and GG2. Thank you and keep em' coming.
Gee, thanks guys--you're the BEST!
I'm answering questions in the next post, so sit tight!
Oh, and thanks to those of you seeking out Solitaire--that means more than you'll ever know!
Ally
Here you go: What is Ally short for? :) The obvious Allyson, Alyson, or Allison? The more exotic Alexandra, Alexandria, or Alejandra? Or is it top secret, as mine is?

Omg, same! I love the commentary, but nobody will watch movies with me becuz of that! you're right, I would love a writers commentary. You should make another book that goes chapter by chapter, giving your thoughts on that chapter! i'd buy it in a second. Oh, and isn't it so interesting that there were originally supposed to be little people jumping on the piano in HP3? The things you learn when watching the interviews and when listening to commentary as well... that's why i like useless trivia. Don't you? Can't wait for Cross My Heart and Hop To Die!
