Read it and Weep!

No, I'm not talking about my current work in progress (although some weeping is usually involved.)

I'm actually talking about the Disney Channel original movie based on Julia DeViller's very cool novel, HOW MY PRIVATE PERSONAL JOURNAL BECAME A BESTSELLER.

It's going to air on the Disney Channel tomorrow (Friday) night at 8 pm Eastern/ 7 pm Central time.

So watch the cool movie.

Then read the cool book!

Later,
Ally

I've been looking foward to seeing this for a while. Not only do I love YA novels, but I'm a Disney Channel fanatic. I know it's weird for a girl my age to have Disney as my main tv outlet, but it's a hard habit to break. And who doesn't love Disney?
Anyway, Ally dear, I've been wondering.. I know you're done giving writing tips, and my questions probably make you sick, but could you answer my one last question? If it's wrong to read what you've written, how do you remember where you've left off?
Yeah, I already asked that.. but really. What do I do?

Hi Jen,

I think it's okay to read your manuscript to see where you've left off and things like that. My advice is just not to get hung up on REwriting what you've already written--especially if you have trouble finishing projects.

Some writers perfect as they go. I can't. I used to try, but then either I'd spend all my time "polishing" and never finish, or I'd polish a scene to perfection only to finish the manuscript months later and realize that whole scene had to go and I'd wasted many precious hours.

Have I mentioned the Alphasmart before? It's a wordprocessing thing like a really stripped down laptop. You can type. You can download to a laptop. It has a very small screen, though, and editing is a bear on it--which is great because while you can back up and read a little (see where you left off if that's a concern), but you don't get tempted to rewrite the whole thing because it would be pretty painstaking.

hope that helps,
Ally

Thanks for the advice! I'm excited to use it. And about the Alphasmart, I looked it up online and it's like four hundred something dollars. I looked it up on ebay and it's like $25 plus $10.99 for shipping and handling. I think it's a good investment. I asked my dad to bid on it for me, and so far, so good. I'm serious about this writing thing. I mean, I've been serious about a lot of things that never really worked out, but this has always felt right. It feels good to be so sure about this.

I babble a lot. Which is funny, because I'm not really a talker. I mean, I dropped out of a class because I had to do two oral presenations. Lame, I know. But I think I'd almost rather die.

Anyway, thanks.
