Popcorn balls
Yes. I said popcorn balls.
I can't believe the general outpouring of emotion over these wonderful balls of joy. As Amber pointed out in the comments of the last post, they are very popular among the kids at home.
So I'm really happy that my mother has volunteered to let me post her recipe!
But unfortunately, she had shoulder surgery yesterday and is currently doped up.
So...we could get recipe, but it might be interesting.
And that's assuming there is a recipe, which I wouldn't count on.
You see, usually when I ask my mother for recipes the conversation goes something like this:
Me: Mom, can you tell me how to make popcorn balls?
Mom: Oh, you know how to do that.
Me: No, I don't, really.
Mom: But you've seen me do it a hundred times.
Me: Yes, but seeing you do it and me doing it by myself are different things.
Mom: Well...you just...make them.
Me: Yes, I know. But how? What's the recipe?
Mom: Well you know me, I don't really have a recipe.
Me: Shocker.
So what usually happens is she has to make a batch of whatever it is and I sit at the counter and watch and the conversation goes something like this:
Me: Is that flour?
Mom: Yes.
Me: How much?
Mom: Oh...just some flour.
Me: Half cup? Two cups? Quarter of a cup?
Mom: You don't really need to--
Me: MEASURE IT!
This is how I learned to cook. In fact, my favorite "cookbook" is a spiral notebook in which I have written down all of my mother's "recipes."
And now I fear that the student has become the master because I made some cookies a few weeks ago which led to the following conversation:
Mom: Kid, your cookies are really good.
Me: Thanks.
Mom: I'll have to get your recipe
Me: Oh...well...I don't really have a recipe.

Lol, that sounds just like my mom! I ask her how she makes something and she doesn't use a recipe, she just DOES it. :)
Now that I think about it, I may have traded my little boy out of his last Halloween. Does that make me a bad mommy? :-)
My mom always has a recipe, she just doesn't follow it. She uses most of the same ingredients, but often adds whatever she thinks will be good and puts however much she wants. When people ask her for a recipe she always gives it to them with a long list of the things she may or may not have changed since she can never quite remember.
Well, I guess I can relate. I have a mom who doesn't really get the concept of sharing ~.- Anyway Im a 16 year old from Malaysia and a HUGE fan. Seriously. I know you probably have never heard of where I come from, but you have fans here, and just wanted to let you know.
Couldn't put your book down, it was like watching Alias or Prison Break. Which always gets me into a IS IT OVER ALREADY?? mood. Totally hoping that Disney really picks it up. That would be awesome!
Love your stuff and can't wait for more!
Wow, my mom the total opposite. She has everything written down... right up to the brand name to use for certain ingrediants.
My mom is very much like your's Ally. It's a 'dash' of something, or a 'pinch.' Another favorite of hers is 'a handful' or even "just put some in and then taste it. If it doesn't taste right, add some more."
