Today's question: what's the best movie you saw this year?

Usually I go to tons of movies, but since this was the year of the perpetual deadline, I only saw a few. Of those, easily my favorite was Little Miss Sunshine. The best drama was The Departed.

So what do you say, folks? What movies should I for sure add to my Netflix list so that I can make up for lost time when GG2 is finally finished?

I would say the best was Pirates of the Carribean: Dead Man's Chest!!! I loved it soooooo much! My second was Superman Returns. My favorite old movie that I saw for the first time this year was Pretty in Pink!! I loved it, sooooo cute! I would also have to say that last year my favorite movie was Narnia, talk about taking your breath away! Some movies I'm looking forward to seeing in the next year: Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix; The Holiday; Shrek the Third; Dreamgirls; Becoming Jane; Spiderman 3; and Because I said so. Now, will I get to see all these movies, probably not! I'll have to wait until they're available on Netflix.

None really topped the list. But here were a few I enjoyed a lot. I’m easy to please at movies, though.

Adult Movies:
Casanova
Tristan + Isolde
Last Holiday
The Holiday (but it wasn’t as good as I thought it would be)
Proof

Teen Movies:
John Tucker Must Die
Just My Luck
She’s the Man
Step Up

It's a tie between The Prestige (which was fabulous and had cool twists) and the new Bond, which had, well, the new Bond. Yummy!

Ally, I totally agree with your take on "Little Miss Sunshine" -- it was an incredible movie. Since you didn't mention "Stranger Than Fiction," I'll say that if you loved LMS, you'll probably love STF, too. It's more subtle, but it's just as juicy and lovable. My favorite character is, of course, the writer. Ya gotta love writers on deadline with a killer case of writer's block.

Does Serenity still count? I've seen it countless times and it gets better on subsequent viewings because of all the little details that I fail to pick up in earlier viewings.

I saw Casablanca for the first time this year. It was very good. Finding Neverland, too, which I finally got around to watching. I cried buckets.

From one Depp to another: I thought PoTC II was entertaining, but not a great story because it's incomplete. It was clearly the middle piece (not it's own story), and IMO missing a beginning and an end. Still enjoyed it, but not as much as the first one, which exceeded all my expectations.

I think X-Men 3 came out this year too. It was good, but not great. It felt like a whole bunch of pieces stuck together, but I've already had a very long rant about it.

I really liked Inside Man, but probably won't be re-watching it. Same with Superman Returns - the dialogue was a bit bland, but some of the shots were beautiful, and it told a better or are least more coherent story than X3. I wish X3 could have been directed by Singer too (or Whedon, and perhaps they could have asked him to write the script as well, and not change it after).

I really liked LMS. The Break Up actually surprised me. I liked it, and Last Holiday -- really fluffy, almost to the point of TV-movieness, but fun. Thank You FOr Smoking was hilarious.

The new superman was like "dress up day" for a bunch of teenagers. i couldn't buy that clark and lois were the ages they purported to be. They both looked like teenagers.

Pirates of the caribbean committed character assassination on just about every character in the film.

One old movie that I saw for the first time this year was The Lion in Winter, and it blew me away. And if you haven't seen Holes or Goodbye Lenin, I recommend them both.
