I am all for the spinoff IF she also stays on Grey's. If she's leaving to do the spinoff then I am extremely disappointed. I think she's vital to Grey's.
I don't see it going well. I'll watch the first couple episodes before I decide whether or not it's going to be a show I'll watch. I haven't seen a good spin off in awhile. Maybe we're due for one, maybe it'll be a flop. Joey anyone?
I personally don't think that it will do well, IF she leaves the Grey's Anatomy story line/plot. In my opinion she's not that great of a character, BY HERSELF. No one on the show is. What makes the show great is there interactions with EACH OTHER. And since there is little to NO chance that all of the old characters, i.e Meredith, Bailey, Christina, Burke etc. will be on the spin off it, in MY opinion, won't work. And like Amber said, she needs to be on Grey's anatomy, she still has a lot of un-dealt with plot to finish before she leaves.
Addison is a good woman. She deserves her own show. I think that most Grey's lovers will follow her even if she leaves the original show. However, I hope that she doesn't.
I'm psyched for an Addison spin-off. I'd like to see Addison getting a real life and friends outside of Seattle Grace. I'm not sure how much more the writers can do with her on Grey's- her drama with Sloane and Derek is either over, or getting old. I love the thing with her and Alex, but don't think it's sustainable.
Mainly, though, I trust the creator of Grey's to create another solid show and to treat the characters- new and old- with a lot of respect. Just look at the new characters they've introduced since the show began- Callie, Addison, Sloane- at the very least, the first two are extremely well-developed characters who have grown on me week after week. Therefore, I would love to see the same great minds creating characters for another show, and I wonder sometimes how much sense it makes for Addison to stay at Seattle Grace when there seems to be very little for her there. She's got pseudo friendships with Callie and sometimes Bailey, but I'd like to see her get a real life- and more real storylines- of her own.
Plus, if they get rid of Addison, the Grey's writing stuff is going to have to come up with something new to propel a lot of the drama- new characters, new overarching stories, new everything. In general, I think shaking things up is good- the less we allow the writers to rest on their laurels, the more we push them to come up with awesome stuff week after week.
I'm very torn about the idea of a spinoff. I love her too much on Grey's, and a character always changes (not always for the better) when they get their own show. It's completely unavoidable, considering they're going to be around other new characters, but it can still be disappointing. :-/
Ally Carter is the author of the Gallagher Girls series. Right now she's hard at work on book three, the title of which is currently classified, and she could tell you more, but...well...you know...
