Big weekend. Big, big weekend

And here's why:

1...tonight I'm going to go see the new Harry Potter movie!!! Of course, always before my friends Mace and Vanessa and I have seen the movies opening night, but this year they totally threw us with the whole Wednesday debut thing. So we're splitting the difference and going on Thursday.

Can you tell I'm excited?

I'm really freaking excited!

2...Niece #1 is turning three tomorrow.

3...Saturday there's going to be a birthday party (and pizza and cake--which I probably won't be able to eat).

4...My good friend Jennifer Lynn Barnes is back in the states and I'm going to get to see her when I'm in town and we'll probably go to a bookstore and talk about covers, and authors, and all kinds of things you can only really talk about with other writers.

5...Have I mentioned I'm going to see the new Harry Potter movie tonight??~?~?~?~

So, who's seen it?

I saw it last night! It was great!! Well, yeah, it was! Luna Lovegood was the absolute best part of the film for me, she's my favorite charecter and the girl that plays her (Evanna Lynch) was brilliant!! They did (almost) everything justice, I would have liked to have seen Lockhart in St. Mungo's, just because he was the funniest part of the book. But yeah, it was pretty freaking awesome!!!

I saw it last night- and was pleasantly surprised. I should disclaim that I absolutely despised book five when I read it. I felt like nothing happened the entire book, we ended up pretty much exactly where we started off, and the prophesy didn't live up to all the hooplah and build up in the first billion pages of the book, because I've been assuming since day one that Harry and Voldemorte would face off and one of them would have to kill the other, so my response to the big ending was "THAT'S the prophesy? THAT's what I just read this uber long book where the main character was moping the entire time, and nothing happened except the Ministry being annoying... all for THIS? And, dude, Sirius died for THIS? Lame."

Anyway, long story short, I was so disappointed in book 5 that if I hadn't liked book six a lot better, I probably would have stopped reading the series. I disliked it that much. So I had very low expectations of the movie and was pleasantly surprised. I think they manage to make Umbridge funny in a lot of scenes, which I think is a vast improvement from the book, Luna and Ginny were both awesome (and they're my favorite characters in the kid set), Snape continues to be spot on (and quite funny), and there was enough on screen action to disguise the fact that the plot wasn't being moved forward much.

It was one of my favorite HP movies, despite being my least favorite book. My brother said it was his favorite of the movies, but book five is also his favorite book. Sis-in-law liked it, and so did my brother's friend ("for what it was"). Both of my parents hated it, and my dad fell asleep twice. So I think it's safe to say that there's a range of possible reactions here!

Can't wait to hang out! This is gonna be AWESOME.

Is it cool that a boy (me) is reading your Gallagher Girls Series? Because I was at Barnes N Noble one day and I saw the book so I looked at the back and I said," This looks interesting." and the next week I bought it. So I'm only on page 212 but I love it and I can't wait for "Cross My Heart and Hope to Spy". I really like the series and hopefully I'll finish it before the new Harry Potter book. (by the way I saw It opening night and it was awesome!!!!)

I really thought the movie didn't do the book any justice. I mean, of course, with theses book-to-movie knd of shows, there is ALWAYS going to be a different take on things, and some stuff left out.

However, the movie left TOO much stuff out, and made TOO many changes. If someone hadn't read the book before hand (god forbid) they would have been SERIOUSLY confused (like my sister was)

It was as if the director (or whoever was responsible for the movie) wanted to quickly get it done and over with. Kreacher who played a major part in the book was reduced to a snivelling brat, Tonk's hair was purple instead of PINK, Marietta went missing, and Harry has very bad hair. I felt Ron and Hermione had so little screen time, the prophecy and Grawp probably made better supporting actors.

That being said, the show was quite enjoyable. The humour was retained, at least a little and Umbridge was STELLAR!

The FX were great, although not as great as those in Fantastic 4 or Transformers, but still amazing.

As a fan of Potter, the movie was just okay, and I seriously hope the next one will be better.

Can't wait for Deathly Hallows!!

"Weaver of Words" I agree with you, for the most part. Yes, my dad was confused, and he had a hard time understanding the movie, but for some people who were also confused, it's not that hard to pick up the book and read. Also, I agree that they left out most stuff, but anyone who has been on Mugglenet in the past month would know that the producers and screenwriter consulted with J.K.R. every step of the way and she said that Marietta didn't play a big part, so it was alright that they cut her out. But she did demand that they keep Kreacher in because he apparently plays a big role in DH.

All around, I thought the movie was great. I am extremely dissapointed with the way they killed Sirius, and the prophecy, but all around it was a great movie. Oh, and what was up with Neville walking by the Room of Requirement ONCE and it opening for him??? That sort of made me mad. That's all.

Kim ~ Camping out in front of Borders until midnight. You know what I'm talking about...

Jennifer Lynn Barnes! You're the first person I've heard say "outloud" what I thought of Book Five and have been saying ever since! I didn't like it at all, and I was ultra-disappointed. I didn't like the teenage angst at the beginning, and I didn't like the way the huge conflicts played out, and compared to all the other books, I was throroughly disappointed. But yes, Book Six redeemed the series for us all. I still haven't seen the movie...
