A truly important question
Okay guys, I need your advice on a very serious issue...
What is better for a book launch party--cake, cupcakes, or cookies?
All this time I've been thinking cake since a cake with the CROSS MY HEART AND HOPE TO SPY bookjacket made entirely out of icing would probably be the most awesome thing in the universe.
However, (as my very wise sister pointed out) do you really want to mess with cutting and serving cake at the launch party? I mean, seriously. I have personally been the official "cake server" at about two dozen weddings and it's a pretty icky job. And then you have to make sure there are plates...and forks... And it's really hard to party-hardy when you're worried about stocking the fork supply!
So that brings us to my good friend, the cupcake. All the delicious icy-ness of cake, but in a convenient paper wrapper. Of course it's probably not possible to have a Gallagher Girl on every single cupcake, but it's also not necessary to be on fork patrol either.
However, with cake, if there's a much larger-than-anticipated crowd you can cut the pieces smaller. With cupcakes, you're locked in to a number. Even if you've got people (and yes, Mom, I'm talking to you) who will only eat a half bite of a cupcake and then "be so full" (note to self: be more like your mother), so cupcakes can, on occasion, be sort of wasteful.
Which brings us to, perhaps, my favorite combo ever: the cupcake AND cookie tray option. You get cupcakes and their advantages and also cookies which can come in a variety of sizes and flavors. And, let's face it, most people will always pick up and enjoy a cookie.
But I can't decide!
Help!

ps....it's ONE WEEK AND COUNTING, by the way. That's seven days, people.
pps...I'm STILL freaking out!!!!

cupcake and cookie
I like the cupcake and cookie idea, but then again, you have to estimate the number so no one gets left out. With a cake, you just get one and everyone eats, plus a cool picture! ")
i think all, but that is probably not possible...
cake and/or cookie, i wouldn't do cupcakes...
Cupcake and cookie. The perfect combonating of softness and crunchyness! Make a million of each so no one gets left out and give the rest us starving girls whome arn't on diets. I'm on a sea food diet. I see food and then I eat it. Very effective if your trying to gain weight.

Whatever is most convenient for you will be wonderful I'm sure. I'll eat a cupcake, cookie, or cake! I'll eat them all! I agree that you probably don't want a cake messing up your party plans though! I can't wait! I'm so excited!
Personally I think cupcakes can get dry a lot easier than cake or cookies. I went to a wedding recently where they had cake and cupcakes, and the cupcakes were really hard by the time they served the cake, and they ended up throwing them out. The good thing about cookies is that it's an easier clean up. The cupcake cups tend to get soggy, and if some of the cupcake is ground into the carpet of the floor then it's a harder cleanup for the workers at the store. Sorry, my sister's a party planner so I know a lot about this. :) My favorite idea is the cookie cake idea. Just go for a yellow cake with buttercream frosting and chocolate chip or sugar cookies, don't go for the crazy ideas like oatmeal or peanut butter, some people might be allergic.
I'm bummed I can't go! Gosh darn the fact that Saint Louis and Oklahoma aren't directly next to each other...By the way, any news of a signing here??? ~Kim
i think cake because their is going to be more people than u anticsipated i'm guessing and i would love to see that cake, it would be sweet!!
idk, cuz i mean the cake is an awesome idea, but the idea of tearing apart the GALLAGHER COVER *GASP!!!!*?!?!!? i wouldnt do it...althought i am creaving cake...but i cant come anywayz...seeing that minnesota and oklahoma arent by each other! I would go with cookies and cup cakes, and then have lemonade water or milk. probably not milk...have pop like sprite or coke or somehting! good luck ally and dont worry! everything will go perfectly!
The most logical option is the combo cupcake-cooke platter. The thing about cupcakes is that they have frosting...usually messy frosting. Cookie icing (if they are iced) is much less messy. So you can pick your poison, as it were. (Not that they'll be poisoned, but a true Gallagher Girl would figure out for sure before choosing.)
With cake, you might start cutting big pieces and estimate incorrectly, or some poeple will get bigger pieces than others, and who wants that? (Unless you get a big piece, but still...)
I agree with Meagan that you just need to make a million of each. I'll take some of the leftovers if they don't get eaten (hardly likely.) You could do the Gallagher seal on each one instead of a big cake with a picture of the book jacket. Too cute!
not that i'm going to be at the launch party but i think the cookie and cupcake option is pretty snazzy. you can get sugar cookies with frosting(those are great)
i wish i could come but for some odd reason my parents will not drive me form Washington dc to Oklahoma on a school night:)
I say cake and cookies. To me it seems easier. But if you do decide on cupcakes they can make one big picture on them and make it look like a cake, right?
(If I were coming I'd totally bring extra forks.)
yI'd go with cookies. That way you can have a variety of flavors for people to choose from, and they make a lot less mess. Plus you can always write something like "Happy Gallagher Girls Day!" in icing over them. My sister and I did that when the last Harry Potter came out.
psh...i'm thinking brownies. all the way...but what does my opinion matter? it's not like i get to go to the awesome party...lol ya know, since it's what...a bunch of states away? hmmm....lol

Oo I like the brownie Idea. Or you could do cupcakes and cookies and still keep them cool by having you cupcakes arragned so that it looks like the cover, like each cupcake would have a piece of the picture. and then the cookies could have black and green icing/m&ms/sprinkles ooo you could make plaidness on the cookies and the cupcakes too.
Everyone loves cookies and cupcakes
oh mozzz def the coooky and cupcake option yo!
sizzle
Well, actually, I'm more of an ice cream person all the way...So I'd go with ice cream and some sort of brownie/cake/cookie to go with. But unfortunately ice cream is not really practical, is it, what with the whole melting thing? So, I would totally go for cookie cake w/ icing!!!!!!!! Yum. Oh, and I agree with whoever said it would be crazy to cut apart the cover of Cross My Heart on a cake.
Wish I could come...I live in Atlanta. *sigh
I think you should get June Cleaver to serve Milk and Cookies....
With all due respect, I LAUGH at "Mysterious Style's" comment...
I'm thinking they don't know your mama, Ally.
Because June Cleaver AIN'T GOT NOTHIN' on that woman!!!
(I hope she reads this...)
Amanda or Amber -- can I have an "Amen?"
---AbbyGail!
I vote for cupcakes and cookies. On the cupcakes you can have GG2 or GG in icing. Have fun and please post pictures. Can't wait forthe book. *Dominique*
Amen, Abby!
Ditto! Amen Abby!
