One

This post is a lot later today than I'd intended because...well...on the day when I only have one slot, I also have so, so much to say.

ONE

One thing I'm grateful for: my family who always cares.

One thing that makes me proud: that I finished this book--even when I thought I couldn't/wouldn't/shouldn't ever write again.

One thing that worries me: wondering if anyone will like it as much as they liked the first one, and...if they do...how can I make the next one even better?

One thing that excites me: the look on any reader's face when they see a book they've been waiting for.

One thing that scares me: snakes.

One thing that haunts me: the very real possibility that this has all been an elaborate hoax and someday someone's going to tell me that all this is supposed to be happening to some other Ally Carter.

One thing about Cross My Heart I absolutely love: the Mall scenes.

One thing about Cross My Heart I absolutely hate: that it took me sooooo long to find the truest fiction possible.

One thing I'll never do again: fight--instead of follow--the story.

One thing this year has taught me: following your dreams isn't for wusses.

One thing I wish everyone knew about me: when I say thank you for buying my books, I really, really, really, really mean it.

One thing that makes me sad: when people write off books by and about women and call them fluff. Personally, I think LYKY is about predestination and who we would be if we could make up our own identities versus living the lives other people have set for us. But it's got pink on the cover, so of course it can't be about all that.

One thing I really miss: Veronica Mars.

One thing no one knows about this series (yet): where the Gallagher Girls have been is no comparison to where the Gallagher Girls are going.

One thing I'm going to do more of in the future: laugh.

One thing I'm going to do less of: eat.

One thing I hope I never forget how to do: play.

One thing I can't say enough: I have the best editors and agent in the world.

One thing I say too much: I can't do this.

One thing I should never forget: I get paid to do this. I'm the luckiest person in the world.

One thing I hope everyone does tomorrow: honor the Gallagher Girls by being a Gallagher Girl--tell your friends you love them; thank your mom for being your hero; hug your dad; listen to your teachers...and spy on some boy.

One thing that took a year and a half of my life and tested me, and stressed me, and enlightened me, and stretched me, and made me better, hopefully, in many, many ways:

One thing tomorrow means: my work with this book is finished.

One thing the day after tomorrow means: It's time to start all over again.

Thanks, again, everyone for being so kind, supportive, funny, caring, and good. I hope to see you all at the official launch party tomorrow night (Oct. 2, 2007; 7:00; Barnes and Noble, 41st Street; Tulsa, Oklahoma).

In the meantime, good night! And happy reading!

Ally

ps...super big thanks to Kelly for sending me this awesome pic of Cross My Heart on shelves at her local Borders!

I got it yesterday, I can't wait to read it! I'm finishing Twilight now (for the millionth time!) and then I'm going to re-read LYKY and then I'll read CROSS MY HEART AND HOPE TO SPY!!!!!! So excited, really! You are an amazing author, and you're so real, it makes me happy to know that at least one of my favorite authors takes time to talk to her fans and tell them all the things about her life that most people keep private. Have fun at your party tonight, I wish I could be there!!!!

I got CMH last night and read it all in one night (when I really needed to be studying for my AP Physics, Precalc Honors, and French tests, which were all today).

It. Is. Amazing.

You really didn't disappoint, Ally! I loved every minute (page?) of it.

I was mad at B&N though, they just had it under your name, which was at the bottom of the shelf, and not on the new release tables. I almost missed it, and I was freaking out because everybody else got theirs early and I wanted to too. But then I found it, and then the worker lady told me that they had put it out, like, five minutes before and that people had already taken them, and that it was good timing for me.

See? You're really popular!

(And I think that you should have a post-launch party up here in the Milwaukee area. I'll throw it! Hahaha. :P)

Kinz,

I had the same issue with B&N this morning. Got there right at opening (a few mintues before actually) then walked briskly (had my son so I didn't want to run and model bad behavior) to the teen section and NO BOOK! Nothing on the new release end cap, nothing on the tables and under Ally's name, only LYKY. I was standing there dazed. I looked all around and nothing.

Just when I was about to give up and go ask someone, I saw a cart near the back wall with four copies of CMH, along with extras of HP 5 & 6, Twisted, and other titles. I grabbed my copy, then took the remaining three and promptly put them on the New Release end cap in the teen section. I know that's bad and I shouldn't have done it, but I didn't want other people to miss it too!

Shame on me, but great marketing for you! At least until B&N staff find out I put them on the very noticable new release feature spot and move them. I tried and they are the first thing you see when walking down to the teen section.

Things I did today-

1. Spied on my crush.
2. Hummed "Mission Impossible" in the middle of EVERY class. And nobody knew who was doing it. I am SO spy-like.
3. Called my friends Liz and Bex.
4. Got called Cammie.
5. Went to bookstore with Liz.
6. Find out that they don't have it.
7. Got VERY close to slapping the sales-lady.
8. Went looking for it anyways.
9. Found copies of it inside a box behind the counter.
10. (I actually did this) Stole books from box and put them on front table.
11. Found school librarian.
12. Got librarian to get copy of book for library.
13. Bought one.
14. Went home and had sleepover with friend.

You can't say I don't do anything for you!

When we put the books on the front table, we slipped them in our sweatshirts and walked to the front of the store. After we were in the car were started laughing out heads off. Then we started reading.

kay, had to comment again cause i just finished CMH like...two minutes ago. IT WAS AMAZING!! i couldn't get this stupid grin off my face the entire time...no joke!! zach = <3 ^_^ so yeah, you need to write another one....like soon. haha....i seriously have NO idea WHATSOEVER why you were worried about this release. you have such a talent for writing, but not just writing in itself. writing with humor and sarcasm...my favorite because that's the way i talk. i could really relate to cammie. my friend flipped when i read her an excerpt over the phone and she's eagerly waiting to go to the bookstore to get her copy.

congratulations on the release of your new book!! it was wonderful and i really do hope to see many more from you in the future....oh, and here's that "thing" i was making for you in honor of the release....

i wanted to create your characters using the sims 2. hopefully i got the looks close enough to your descriptions!! happy CMH day!!

(and just to let you know, i'm working on getting close ups of all the characters....you should be seeing those soon enough...lol)

I went to TWO Barnes and Nobles yesterday and no dice. I even asked the clerks if they had it and they both told me they had copies "on order" but none in the store. One clerk got his manager to go look for it and she came back with LYKY. What's a girl gotta do to get a book around here?

Dear Ally Carter:

hi, my name is Daniela Alvarez Jimenez. I'm a student(8th)at Hudson Middle School.

i have a class for high school credit its called career investigations. In that class we investigate the career we would like to do when we grow up, what classes we should take in high school, and what high schools would have those classes. My teacher Mrs. Montgomery gave us a project were we will be doing a series of research in the career that we are most interested in. part of that project is to interview a person that already performs that job. So I chose you. It would be awesome if you could take some time out of your busy schedule to help me. If for some reason you can't do it , it would be okay. I understand that you have some things you have to get done. If you decide that you can do it i would be very thankful to you. I thank you beforehand for your time and attention.
