FIVE
I just got word from my editor that CROSS MY HEART AND HOPE TO SPY is slated for its FIFTH week on the New York Times Bestseller List.
Five.
That's five weeks, people.
As in more than a month.
As in I'M FREAKING OUT HERE!!!!
So thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you to everyone who has bought the book--or recommended that a friend buy the book--you guys did this. And I adore you.
In other news, I had a kind of challenging writing day because--after waking up and getting to the library early this morning--my space bar broke. Do you know how crucial the ability to space is when writing a novel? Well, it turns out, it's really, really crucial.
But then I called the helpline and got expert advice on fixing the space bar, so catastrophe averted, but I still managed to waste several space-free hours.
Speaking of hours, (or not really hours, so much as time, but hang with me...) as excited as I am that you guys are excited about GG3, there's something you need to know:
I'm working on a ROUGH draft. As in bad. As in needing many, many more drafts. As in it really will be a long time until the book is in stores. I'm sorry--so, so, so sorry--that it's going to take this long, I'm afraid that's just how these things work.
In the meantime, though, there are a lot of other great books coming out in the coming months...
Like THE SQUAD books by Jennifer Lynn Barnes.
And HOW TO BE BAD by Sarah Mlynowski, E. Lockhart, and Lauren Myracle.
Not to mention THE DISREPUTABLE HISTORY OF FRANKIE LANDAU-BANKS, also by E. Lockhart, which is probably the best book I've read in a long, long time.
So see...so much good reading!
And don't worry, I am writing as fast as I can, but this book is big--like really, really big--and I've got to get it just right because...well...I'd tell you, but then...you know.
later gators,
Ally

oh my gosh, I'm so excited for the next book and it's not going to come out for like a year!! Do u know when Kat is going to come out?? Then i'll have something else to look forward to.
I don't care how long it takes you, I know how hard it is to write. I'm working on my Nanowrimo and it is a REALLY bad rough draft. But I'm just going to try to get it all out then edit.
Thanks for the book recomendations! The Squad sounds intersting! I don't like cheerleading, but when there is spying involved........
i agree with rosabeth!! my first draft is horrible. as in "never should it see the light of day" horrible, but then again, that's how all good books start out. you gotta go through the bad to get to the good!!
so don't worry about us...too much. we get it!! we're just uber excited you're working on it period. did you say it's gonna be BIG? like....as in...more words? lol or big as in, "this plot is crazy" big? because either way, it makes me happy!!
my nano is full of nuttiness and my characters have just a liiitle too much fun annoying the heck out of me, so i must go get them back in line!!

Do you know that all the books you have recommended come out in 2008?
I cannot bring myself to imagine life without a space bar. I would simply die.
Congratulations on being on the list for five weeks already! May you have many, many more weeks on there before J.K. Rowling writes another book and bumps everybody off the list. ;)

Ohh. Space Bar damage sounds bad. If I didn't have a spacebar, I wouldn't be typing this, so I like my space bar. It's okay that the next book won't come out for a while because I happen to be reading one of the classics: Romeo and Juliet. Wow. Hard read. And I'm only on, like, the 3rd page or something. =(
Ooh...I can't imagine writing without a space bar. But the Romans wrote without spaces, so...
Congrats on GG2 staying on the NYT Bestseller List!
My NaNoWriMo is actually going pretty well at the moment.
I can't wait for The Squad to come out. And GG3 of course. ;)
Fabulous news about the NYT Bestseller List!!! And it's well-deserved, IMO! :)
Hi Ally!
Congratulations on still staying on the New York Times Best Seller List! 5 weeks IA A LOT! I mean, just like you said--more than a month--
=( I knew it was coming, but I kinda' dreaded the day that you would say those words..... GG3 will be really good though... and taking your time will make it all the better!
I'm checking out the NanoWrimo thing and it looks really good, I have like 7 books, I'm working on, but (for fun) and I'm kind of thinking about entering and putting one of them in there!
Right now I'm reading the 1st book out of "Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants" it's REALLY good so far.... and I think that and probably another series will keep me occupied enough to wait for GG3!! =/
I'm kinda bummed about that but......... IT'S OK! TAKE YOUR TIME, REMEBER: NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS WE WILL ALWAYS BE ROOTING FOR YOU!
-Alex
p.s. I'm a Microsoft Word person and I think I would die if I didn't have my spacebar!! =P
Yayness about the NYT Bestsellers list. That is so awesome!
awwww.
you're so sweet, ally. you really do care about your fans!
just take your time because the better (and bigger) the novel, the more worthwhile the wait will be, but not too much time because i need to know about josh and cammie of course!
woot!!! 20%!
you rock, ally!
-Kristin
PS Congrats on being on "The List" for five weeks!!!! woot woot!
My first draft for Nanowrimo isn't going so well, either. It's actually kind of making me nervous, because everyone's like "Oh! I want to read your book." And now I'm like, 'I'm afraid it will be horrible... so wait until the seventieth draft, okay?' :) I just have to keep motivated! It's nice to know that not everyone is crazy about their first drafts, just like me. :)
KEEP WRITING!!! i cannot wait for the next book!!
and if anyone needs a book to read while they're waiting, the clique books by lisi harrison are good!
GREAT JOB!!! twenty percent... that's pretty good. can u get it up to a hundred by, like, tomarrow so we can get it???? NEVER stop writing gg books!! NEVER. i will freak out if u stop. oh, and is zach gonna be in the new one? i hope so!!!
the book reccommendations are awesome thanks!!! im soooo excited for GG3!!!!
p.s. im still rooting for JOSH!!
