What are MY favorite books?

Okay, so last week was AWESOME! I got to visit the uber-amazing people at Coppell Middle School West (Hi, Ms. Brock!) and honestly I don't know when I've had so much fun.

But something weird happened. Actually, it wasn't all that weird because, to tell the truth, it's more like a disturbing trend.

Because, you see, people have a tendency to ask me who MY favorite writers are.

And I have a tendency to choke.

And stammer.

And clam up as if I've never read a book in my life!

Why this question leaves me so incredibly intimidated I will NEVER know, but as soon as someone asks I inevitably behave like a total idiot.

So I think it's probably a good idea for me to write a list of my favorite books-slash-authors. And memorize it. Or maybe get it tattooed on my forearm. Or something else that doesn't hurt as badly.

So here goes.

BOOKS AND AUTHORS THAT I LOVE (in no particular order)

--The Percy Jackson books by Rick Riordan
--The Twilight Books by Stephenie Meyers
--anything by Dennis Lehane*
--anything by John Green
--anything by E. Lockhart
--the Bras and Broomsticks books by Sarah Mlynowski
--The Squad books by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
--The Kiki Strike books by Kirsten Miller
--anything by Laurie Halse Anderson
--the Harry Potter books
--anything by Meg Cabot
--anything by Sarah Dessen
--anything by Jennifer Weiner
--Amazing Grace by Megan Shull
--Motherless Brooklyn by Jonathan Lethem*
--Girls' Poker Night by Jill A. Davis
--Story of a Girl by Sara Zarr

*May not be suitable for younger teens

Now the problem about me and this particular list is that I ALWAYS FORGET books and authors that I LOVE.

So I may have to come back to it.

A lot.

But this is a pretty dang good start.

I love all of those books! I just finisjed reading the Kiki Strike books 2 days ago. I read alot and love reading. On the security system, my parents labeled my room as the "library". It really looks like a library though, not like a 12 year old girls room.
My favorite books of all time are the Kiki Strike series and All-American Girl and Ready or not by Meg Cabot

Kiki Strike! Kiki rules. (I admit it, I was looking for the Irregulars while I was in NYC over Thanksgiving weekend.) And I can't wait for The Squad to come out because I really love Jennifer Lynn Barnes's books, too.

My favorite-est author is Shannon Hale, but I have lots of other favorite authors, a list which is too long.

Maybe it's because people are probably looking for suggestions when they ask an author what their favorite books are and what if they hate the book? What will they think of your books if they don't like the books you like to read? It shouldn't matter, but what if it does?

Hi Rosebeth and Skippy!

Thanks you guys for being such loyal blog readers--that's awesome! But I'm afraid I'm going to have to ask you guys to keep the private "conversations" to a minimum.

Thanks!
Ally

How about the Uglies series? Have you read Uglies? Because Scott Westerfeld is one of my all-time favorite authors, along with you and Anthony Horowitz and and and...

hmm...there is a severe lack of Scott Westerfeld in the above (^) comment.

There are the things people need to live. Water, air, light. ALLY CARTER BOOKS and SCOTT WESTERFELD BOOKS. hehe. I am convinced that anyone that hasn't read books by Ally Carter or Scott Westerfeld haven't lived yet.

By Ally Carter I of course mean lyky and the fawesome sequal that I finished Friday even though I wasn't supposed to. And by Scott Westerfeld I mean Peeps, Uglies, Midnighters, The Last Days. yeah. They rock. Everyone should read them.

Sorry. I'm just an obsessive fan like that.

i have a quick question-and i didn't know how else to ask (seeing as though i don't have a myspace)

there are different fansites (for example- twilightlexicon.com for the Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer) and i noticed (as far as google told me) that there weren't any fansites like that for the 'Gallagher girls' sereies.
perhaps there could be if i gathered enough info on the books. would you be mad if there were fansites though??

It is totally cheating to list books that haven't been published yet! (I can't *wait* for the Squad books to come out.) I'm tickled to see Rick Riordan on your list, as the Percy Jackson books also get my big thumbs up.

Speaking of books worth loving, the youth services librarian at the library where I work and I have been fighting over who gets to read the new adventures of Cammie whenever a new one comes in to the library. :) (Yep, we fought over the first one, too. But we're actually very civilized when you get to know us.) We've both finished Cross My Heart and really enjoyed it, though we're at odds about whether mysterious spy boys are more fun in a narrative than sweet normal boys... :)

Among young adult novelists, I like E.L. Konigsburg and Ellen Raskin.

Neil Gaiman gets an asterix, especially his Sandman novels, which are so good you need annotations to enjoy it all! (For YA, read Coraline and Stardust.)

As a young adult, I didn't read much YA fiction. Narnia was about it. In grade school (K-6), I read all of the Judy Blume books, even the yucky girlie ones. In junior high (7-9), like many of my friends, I read adult fiction, like Isaac Asimov, and Stephen King.

Nowadays, I'm a big fan of graphic novels. Seeing as how big time authors are adapting their works into words and pictures, I'm sure it will only be a year or two until we see a Gallagher Girls manga!

Oh, and I forgot two more!

If you like fantasy, you must read The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by Frank Baum. (Yes, I know you've seen the musical. It's nice, but, in the end, she's crazy. Oz doesn't exist. And that's WRONG. And it leaves out the part where she visits the Good Witch of the South.)

The other series is Discworld, by Terry Pratchett. Set on a flat world, he uses fantasy to satirize our society. Free Speech, women in the military, race relations, gender equality... all very funny and well written.

Both have lots of titles, so you'll have something to read until the next Gallagher Girls novel comes out!
