Big to-do

You want to know how two YA authors spend a night on the town? Well, let's just say that when Jennifer Lynn Barnes stopped by to see the new house last night the following happened:

1. Jen agreed that the cabinets are evil, but the rest of the house is cute.

2. We watched a bit of TROY on AMC and agreed that Brad Pitt is indeed the hottest man who ever lived (and is either staying at the same level of hotness or even possibly getting hotter as he ages.)

3. Decided to go see JUMPER.

4. Agreed that JUMPER was both a really bad, yet also really enjoyable, movie.

5. Got into Jen's car to leave.

6. Realized that Jen's car wouldn't start.

7. Tried to call AAA.

8. Realized that if you have a full A-Z keyboard on your phone (like a Motorola Q) then phone numbers like 1-800-AAA-HELP aren't all that helpful.

9. Decoded the AAA phone number.

10. Waited for AAA.

11. Observed a woman, a child, and two men acting suspiciously in the parking lot, so Jen (who also writes about spies) and I recorded the following:

--they were driving two vehicles, a white toyota camry, and a maroon chevy malibu.
--they were both from out of state--the same state.
--one of the men thought he was a whole lot younger and a whole lot cooler than he actually was.
--the owner of the white camry was likely a University of Texas graduate (but neither of the cars were from Texas.)
--the woman and the child left in the white car and the two men left in the maroon car. They left going in different directions, but not before we overheard plans to meet up later at a local nightclub.
--the operatives (Jen and I) couldn't follow, however, because that's about the time the AAA guy got there.

12. AAA quickly jumped the car. It started. Jen and I bragged about how calmly we handled the situation.

13. Started to leave parking lot.

14. Car died again.

15. Called Jen's parents.

16. Waited and watched as the entire Barnes clan descended upon us. Seriously. It was as if someone sent up the Bat signal or something.

17. Waved about a dozen cars to drive around us because, of course, we stalled in probably the busiest place in the parking lot.

18. Tried to jump Jen's car again--no luck.

19. Listened as Jen's dad instructs Jen's brother to push the car into an empty space.

20. Watched as brother strained and moaned and had his face turn purple.

21. Offered to get out of the car and HELP push as opposed to BEING pushed.

22. Pushed car easily with our superior, collective girl-power strength.

23. Learned that Jen's dad had kept his foot on the brake during the first car pushing attempt, so maybe Jen and I weren't the awesome car-pushers we thought we were.

24. Got taken to dinner by Jen's Parents.

25. Gave tour of house...again.

26. Got confirmation that the cabinets ARE EVIL...again.

27. Said a prayer of thanks that I now live in a place where when you break down people care. And help. And even if the cabinets are evil, the people most definitely are not.

Ally,

I'm so glad you've got a support network. Life is always much easier to handle if you know that there are people you can call and who will drop everything to help you.
Now here's hoping your cabinets get exorcised soon!

oh gosh...i hate it when the car won't start...at least my dad's old truck never died in the middle of the parking lot. it likes to die in the driveway so we end up riding our bikes to school...and it usually dies in the winter. it's just evil like that.

either way, i'm glad you guys are both okay and that you got some spy time in!!

Gosh. Yet another good reason to become a YA author. And from this night out we can all learn sevral good things:
Beware of two guys in a maroon car with a woman and child in a white car.
Seriously. Get New Cabinets!!!
Jumper is as weird as I thought it looked.
The Barnes family is seriously amazing.
Ally has very strong, superwoman-like arms.
Again. NEW CABINETS!!!

I've heard that Jumper is really bad which is a bit of a disappointment for me, Hayden Christensen is very cute but I should've guessed from his Star Wars performance it would be bad lol. And that car sounds possibly more evil than the cabinets lol!

Wow... my mom's car got stuck by a sushi restaurant once, and she called AAA... by the time they got there 2 hrs had passed...
At least you got faster help!
so... evil cabinets, (possibly) evil maroon and white cars, triple A jumping a car but then the car fails just after they leave...
Someone should write a book about that... two authors who write books about spies are trapped near a movie theatre because their car mysteriously won't start. They finally call AAA but then they notice a conspiracy plot - two cars, both from the same state (etc...), and decide to follow to stop the plot. But just then, AAA comes and jumps their car (at the same time planting a GPS tracking device so that they will always know where the authors are - the authors are wanted because their spy "fiction" books aren't so fictitious after all). By the time the car is "fixed", the "AAA" workers (who really work for (insert acronym here)), have snipped an important wire, because it would interfere with the tracking device's signal. So, the two authors have to call one of the author's parents to pick them up. Unbeknownst to them, they work for the CIA and are ready to attack the evil (acronym) people, and will stop at nothing. So, when the visit one of the author's houses, they offer to look at the evil cabinets and find out that they are indeed evil - the (acronym) has added a three inch support bar! They must now rush off and Google evil support bars until they have enough information to track down the evil (acronym) operatives.
Hey - it could happen! You never know who these AAA people are... although maybe you should check the car over for GPS tracking devices...
sorry i was ranting a little there...

Anyways, it sounds like you two had quite an adventure. That's too bad you had to decode a phone number. Seems awfully spy-like to me, but that's good, considering that's a topic you both write about. :)

owww. that was so fun! I wish I was there! Uhh. I went to an author's blog and I think she slipped from telling where you now lived. Anyway, Jennifer Lynn Barnes' books are so AWESOME, too because The Squad and The Gallagher series are mostly similar. She even have a line where Everybody-knows-Toby said something like don't tell anyone or she will kill you. I wish she will continue to write another The Suad series.
People who love Ally Carter's books, please read Jennifer Lynn Barnes' The Squad:Perfect Cover and The Squad:Killer Spirit. It's as exciting as Ally's Gallagher books. So please read it so her publisher will see how much her books sell and so she can write a third one.

Hayden Christenson (I might have probably most likely spelled that wrong) is a really bad actor in Star Wars, so I don't see why he would be any better in Jumper.
