The t-shirt contest is on! Sort of.
Okay, so the powers that be (meaning my fabulous, wise, and savvy editor and agent) have told me that a t-shirt contest is as cool as we all thought it was going to be.
SO WE'RE GOING TO DO IT!
But since I've never done a T-shirt design contest before, I've got to get the rules settled before we get this show on the road.
Here are the rules as they stand so far:
--all designs must be original artwork (no clipart!)
--all designs must relate to the Gallagher Girl series (either book)
--designs may use lines or themes from the book, but should not directly copy any cover art elements (meaning don't just scan the cover onto your computer and chop it up)
--collaborative efforts are allowed but prizes must be shared among the members of the winning team
--by entering this contest you give up the copyright to your artwork (meaning you can't sue is if we use it because...well...using it is kind of the purpose.)
--there will be a deadline by which all designs must be submitted.
--all entries must be submitted via email (address to be determined)
--designs will be judged by a group of very qualified individuals selected by Ally (probably meaning her agent...her editor...her sister... you know, the design pros.)
--designs will be judged based on originality, execution, and how much we'd like to walk around wearing something that looks like (says) that.
--entrants must be under 21 years of age on the date that contest entries are due.
--designs must be sent in Adobe Acrobat format. You may use any software program you'd like to design it, but we'd like you to save it as a pdf file before sending it to us. (If you win, we'll probably want the source file because it will be higher resolution and will duplicate better.)
--the winning design may be used in a number of ways to help promote the Gallagher Girls series.
Okay...those are the rules as they stand now. Details (like the deadline, email address, prizes, etc.) will be filled in shortly.
Other than that stuff, what did I miss?

-Kat

i cant wait 4 the details!
OMG!i cant wait to see who wins!!! i think you should make the winning design into a hoodie too
Ok, this sounds like fun! So I just have one question. For the artwork, does it have to be something that we draw? Because it sounded like you don't want anything from the computer.
<3 Renee
YEY! I am SOOO excited for this! I want to yell but not everyone is awake. *breathe in breathe out* HOO! I'm so ecstatic! I think you miss my "can we make more than one t-shirt?" because I have A LOt in mind and I already wrote/drew the sketches on paper. So please Ally, please say we can make more than one? I'm seriously begging you. Please...*puppy dog eyes* Ooh, and how can we put it on the computer(?) because I'm not really a computer genius. Do we scan our drawing then you'll make the final copy on the t'shirts? Or are we the one who'll put it on the t-shirts then picture it and send it on USB? Or can we use Photo Bucket(?) because Idon't know how to use that. haha. I have a lot of questions and I hope you'll answer them all. YEY!! This is SOO gonna be FUN!! =D

is my mom allowed to help me, she's a designer???
OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG!
I am going to start designing my t-shirt right now!!!!!!!!!!!
I totally have a few things in mind already.
Can we make more than one entry?
I think I may even be getting some inspiration from the dancing with the stars idea!
Thats too cool! I already have an idea...sort of...I'd tell you but then id have to kill you...corny i know
you forgot the no profanity rule.
Yay, the contest looks awesome!
I can't wait to enter the contest!!!

-Stephanie
kewl.
what if we use an online t shirt designing thing? is that against the rules?
That will be SO SO SO cool!!!!!!
I LIKE THE IDEA OF A T-SHIRT CONTEST BUT I CAN'T DRAW SO I'M NOT EVEN GONNA TRY
If we draw ours, do you want us to just take a picture of it or scan it or something? because im really computer-challenged.
OMGeeze!!! I can't wait! I'm soo excited!!! WooHoo!
& u did 4get something, the title contest!! Plz tell us more about that!
--- Jessi
Omg! can there be teams(cause if there can be- me and my buds are so on it!) Plus- i am dying for a deleted scene- have we been good enough?
What is the prize?!?!?!? I can't wait to design a t shirt!!!!!
what is the prize???
OMG! THIS IS AWSOME!!! i've already made some designs but im not the best...ahem...artist ever but my dad is really good and i was wondering if as long as its my idea is it ok if I have someone else draw it, since im like, artisticly challanged. if not thats ok ill draw my best, i mean i'm not awful at drawing cuz i've seen waaay worse but i've also seen waaay better. i just want my design to look its best. oh and how do you scan a drawing onto the computer??? can you use a fax/printer machine or do you have to use a copy machine? and do we have to get the actual t-shirt and put our design on it and then take a digital pic of it and send it to you or do we just send you a drawing and you do the rest?? sorry about all the q's i'm just really excited!!
-gallaghergirl95
P.S I think i know what my design is gona be ( or i atleast have a rough draft of it. ) and its freaking cool!!
AHHHHHH!! I'm so excited for this!!!
thanks!!!!!!!!!
ooh yeah!
do u win a tshirt?
I want to do it, but if we hand draw it, how do we get it on the computer?
Omg- Mrs.Carter I was wondering if people over 21 could help you- or is that like them entering the contest?
Can we make more than one entry? Because what if we come up with like 3 great ideas?
You forgot a REALLY important rule:
Name (first/last), Age, and address (how else do they get the prize?)... my school's student council did an art contest once, but the winner (who made the COOLEST painting you have ever seen) forgot to put their name down, so they couldn't use it at all!
I'm sooooo excited for this - sounds awesome!
this is gonna be a blast!!!!
i really want to do the contest but i don't know if i have the guts to go up against everyone! also, can we use pictures of the people we would cast as the characters (i.e. ellen page)?? because i have an idea for a design but it involves using pics of people. plus, i am not exactly sure how to make it into a pdf file! (i know, i am a majorly ignorant person who doesn't know all that much about using a computer but acts like she does...)
callie
p.s. spring break is 1st week of april. i am soooo dang EXCITED!!!!! plus, i'll finally have time to work on making a fansite for LYKY!!!
all i can say is...
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!
as in a im-way-excited-for-this AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!
not a oh-my-god-kill-me-im scared AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!
yay! i'm Sssssooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo so exited cuz i have great art skills :) ...thanx ally...the pressure is on 4 everybody and ME! K bye...oh ye4 its almost Easter yay!
yay! now comes the hard part- thinking of a design!
jane
wait, is there only gunna be one design, or many? i mean...people should have chioces, right? so maybe there could be like, four different types?
SSSSWWWWEEEEEEETTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Where's my pencil and some paper??!!!!
Thank you thank you thank you, Ally!!!
OK, so if we give you total copyright stuff and everything, will you still label the t-shirt with the person's name, as in -
Designed by: ROBERTO R. RUSSO
for example?
Just wanted to know, thnx.
Hey, this'll be really awesome! I love these kinds of contests. I am personally a horrible drawer, but my friend on the other hand, is really good, so I guess if I imagine the things in my head and just tell her to put it on paper, we'll make a pretty good team!
bu-bye!
Yay! Yay! Yay! Yay!
I'm so happy!
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
This is going to be awesome!
YAY!!!!! I CAN"T WAIT! LUV YA!!!!!!
I'm ready, i'm ready!
I cannot wait! I already know what mine's going to say and look like in my head. EEEEEEK.
--Are we allowed to use the computer to make our design? (like in Paint or something?
--Does the final design have to be on a t-shirt looking thing, or is it just a design that could go on a shirt?
Thanks.
Callie Me,
No, you probably shouldn't use any images that you don't have the rights to use, and that would likely include pictures of celebrities. Plus, I think photos probably wouldn't duplicate that well. Crisp and clean is best.
-Ally
im still confused how do we send it to you and what will it be made in to???
well all in all this sounds soooooooo cool and like so much fun
hey if we gave you permission could you post some designs someplace??
thanks
~taylor<333
Taylor,
I believe your questions are answered in the post, but just to summarize:
You'll make a design (either with a computer or by hand).
You'll save the design to a computer (by scanning it in if you don't build it with a computer program) and then save it as an Adobe Acrobat pdf file.
You'll email the file to an email address that I will announce at the start of the contest.
good luck,
Ally
