Mini blog: apples

There are two apple trees on my grandparents' old farm. We had a very wet summer.

For those of you who may not have agricultural backgrounds, let me help you with the math.

2 apple trees X very wet summer = 9 bazillion apples.

So far my mother has frozen enough cobbler fillings to feed the entire country on the fourth of July. Tonight, I recommended she make some apple butter (which I LOVE and haven't had in ages.)

(If you don't know, apple butter is kind of like apple jelly. But not quite. It's AWESOME!)

And I'm looking up recipes for apple cakes and apple muffins and pretty much all things apple related.

So do you guys have any ideas?

-Ally

I quite enjoy apple pie :)
My family also has two apple trees! We got one last year and the one that was here when we bought the house looks stone age LOL :) The neighbour's cat sharpens her claws on the bark maybe that's why.

Hey - English teacher here, first faculty meeting of the year...we're sitting in the back whispering about YA books, you came up...off to your site and blog...Ohhh! Fun topic! I grew up on an apple orchard - a few more than two trees actually.
What kind of apples might your mom be using? This early in the season I'd guess she might be working with Transparents (yellowish, waxy skin...pretty sour - best marinated in sugar! - not a good eating apple) Or if they are a greenish yellow, they might be Goldens (great eating later in the season) that you're using early (lots of sugar!) Or possibly Grannies...more info than you ever wanted!
Love apple butter (use lots of sugar and cinnamon - try mixing in some/not much mulling spice) Or cider making at Thanksgiving...makes me happy!

For great apple recipes Google the Washington State Apple Commission...Glad you're advertising apples - help pay off those college loans!

Speaking of college..."Go Cougs", although OSU will probably wipe the field with our sorry bodies in Seattle on Saturday...We've heard about "those Orange fans"...Ahh - fall football, life is good!

Apple...um...?

How about apple chips?

They are really good.

You slice them really thin, sprinkle cinnamon on them and fry them. (or saute, if you want to be healthier).

Yummy-yum!

Omg I am so jealous. I had apple donuts once and they were so yummy! I wish we had a bunch of apple trees in our backyard but all we got for the rain was a bunch of mud, which got on my favorite shoes today by the way. My school has like puddles all over the walkway and at the bottom of all the puddles is mud. Gross.

Oh. And you know what's so weird? I just realized I never wished your parents Happy Anniversary lol so Happy Anniversary!

I would suggest something apple-related but sadly it is too hot in south mississippi to grow apple trees. Stupid heat. My grandma has a pear tree though and we went to pick some pears off of it just yesterday and my dad made me climb in the tree to shake it but there were ants in the tree and my head got stuck so you can only imagine how painful that was. But if you need to know how to jar apples with cinnamon, I'm your girl.

Yeah... everyones said just about everything i know about or have done. Theres not much left to make so just google it or go on cooks.com. OH! You could dice up the apples and put them in vanilla yougurt! Maybe, i don't know, just brainstorming.... good luck with the apples. Cant wait till gg3!!!

Candied apples?

I'm no cook. Honestly. I make a mean pot of of [boxed] macaroni & cheese...how's that for professional?

Apple butter, I've heard, is the best. Sounds delicious...even though I don't technically like apples.

Hi Ally,

I know this is VERY off topic, but did you hear what happened to Stephenie Meyer? It hurts my heart so very much. Someone whom Stephenie had given a rough draft of Midnight Sun to put it on the internet without her permission. :(
Go to her website to read about it.

Very sad,
