Cranky

I'm feeling disproportionately cranky this evening. That is to say that my level of crank is higher than my level of actual discomfort. Unless you count the discomfort brought on by crank itself, and then things level out nicely.

I have determined that the aforementioned crank stems from three things.

1. My phone died. As in DIED. As in I spent an hour on the phone with someone from Motorola and then drove to two different cell phone dealers only to be told "oh, yeah, it's dead."

The good news is that it's still under warranty so they're overnighting me a new phone. And I got a loaner phone for in the meantime. So this is why I shouldn't technically be as cranky as I am.

But I am.

2. My feet are weird.

Last year about this time I had the following conversation with one of my friends/coworkers, Beth.

Beth: I need new walking shoes.

Me: Me, too. I just dread having to break a new pair in.

Beth: You have to break in walking shoes?

Me: Yeah. Of course. You know how it takes a couple of months to wear holes in that padding stuff at the back of the shoe so that it will stop giving you blisters?

Beth: (says nothing but looks at me like I'm a freak)

Me: You know... How you have to wear holes in your shoes so they don't hurt?

Beth: Um...Ally...you shouldn't have to wear holes in your shoes to keep them from hurting.

Me: No. Really, you do. Look in my closet. Every pair of treadmill shoes I OWN have two identical holes in the back of the shoe.

Beth: Yeah, they shouldn't do that.

Me: YOUR shoes don't have holes in them?

Beth: No one's shoes have holes in them.

Me: So how do you reach the point when your feet don't blister and bleed when you walk?

Beth: YOUR FEET BLEED WHEN YOU WALK?

Me: Only a little.

Beth: Buy new shoes. Seriously. BUY NEW SHOES.

And thus began the great hunt for shoes that DO NOT result in massive blisters on the backs of my heels.

The hunt isn't going so well.

Last week I actually went to a store in town where you have to walk on a treadmill and they watch you and do all these crazy things, and I bought a pair of shoes...

And now my feet are bleeding.

WHY OH WHY HAVE I BEEN CURSED WITH THESE FREAK OF NATURE FEET?!?!?!

3. Maybe there is no three on second thought, but that doesn't make one or two any less crankified.

Too bad about your phone. That must really stink. Our views on new shoes are very different. I love them! Whoever reads this comment, please go to www.dmtshirtdesign.com/view/ShieldOfRock. I spent hours designing that shirt and I'm trying to win a trip to England. Please vote for me! :D

ur feet are not weird, of at least i hope not? My feet do that too. like u have to walk a week in them so the don't bleed ur foot to death, and then u start moving the around trying to fix them and end up breaking them beyond repair.
Omg my mom say she dosen't have to 'break in shoes' and she has the worst feet in the world( she had to have them fixed when she was 10 and it messed them up even more), maybe or feet are weird? well maybe it's just only awesome people have it. To the awesome people!!!!

my feet do the same thing!!!!!! my mom keeps telling me that i'm weird and that my feet have problems(and she had to have her feet fixed when she was 9!!! plus when she got her feet fixed it made them ever worse) believe me ur not by yourself on the feet thing. look on the bright side, maybe this only happens to peole who have super powers?

I totally feel your feet pain. My new volleyball shoes still give me blisters and I've had them for months - not to mention they are a size eleven. eleven!
It's madness.
Better luck on finding shoes :]

Ally, trust me, I feel your pain on the weird feet thing. I'm in ballet, so every Friday for one hour I voluntarily put on shoes that feel like cement blocks (I haven't worn them in all the way yet) and then I stand on them. That would be the very top of my big toe and second toe and maybe my third toe because all those toes are abnormally elongated. Standing! For an hour! My toes come out smashed up, red, and blisters everywhere, and bleeding.

The really weird thing is though, is that I signed up for that...
So I definitely sympathize.

you know my feet turn different colors. i'm not kidding
it's not when they are cold or anything they just randomly turn different colors
here are the colors they turn:
purple
pink
red
gray
occasionally brown
natural color
white

i call them my mood feet, they will never stay the same color ever.

Aw, poor you! You know, I have really sensitive feet (they don't bleed or anything, but I am prone to blisters). Anyways, my point is, is that I've had very good luck with New Balance shoes. I know that the price tag on some of the shoes could make your jaw drop. However, they last over 6 months to a year (and keep in mind I wear them almost everyday). So, that might be something to look into. Good luck! :)

i, too, take ballet and am on pointe so i totally understand bleeding feet. but my feet only bleed from standing on my toes for hour on end, not from walking shoes. you should def get that checked out. and i totally understand about the phone being dead because my phone wont charge anymore so i have to keep switching batteries with my sister until my new one comes.

It's okay I have wierd feet too. Mine are just really big but I know what you mean about blisters and stuff. I just got a new pair of VERY EXPENSIVE riding boots (As in horse back riding) And I can hardly even walk when I'm done wearing them, my feet grow twice there size when I take them off. the shoe store lady garunteed that it would feel like I wasn't wearing shoes at all! Well guess what world It sure dose feel like I'm wearing shoes, more like snapping parannas at my feet but lets be realistic here.

Eh, everyone's weird. What's the problem? Your feet are how God wanted them to be—if anything's wrong with shoes, it's the fault of their makers, not of yours.

At least shoes can fit you. Me, I have a wide base of the foot with a narrow heel, so I'm prone to blisters. Or my heel slipping right out of most shoes.

My feet are also almost half a size apart. For dress shoes, it's extremely difficult to find a pair that fit and aren't sling-back.

…I hate the appearance of sling-back.

Add that I seriously can't wear narrow heels (or ones over 3") or I'll likely break my ankle, and my selection of possible shoes to even try on plummets.

Does that "horror story" make you feel better? :-D *e-hug*

Your feet are not ‘weird’; mine do the same thing because I dig my heels into the ground when I walk.

New shoes always give me blisters and just aren't comfortable until they have that nice hole worn into the heel. I thought I was weird until my sister informed me that the military teaches all their soldiers to walk and march like this because it prevents them from 'bouncing'.

See? Told you it wasn't weird. :-)

Your feet are fine. Well, actually, I don't know much about them, so I can't exactly be one to judge.
Sorry about your phone, but you're getting a new one, so it's not that bad. Unless you lost a lot of numbers, but that's what the phone book is for. I hope you have a better day than yesterday.

At least your phone just DIED. My phone is like a zombie. I also have the same network as my siblings and parents and I'll be in the same spot as them and I'll have ZERO bars and they'll have full. Stupid hassle-ey phone. Makes me cranky too. >=[

I have blisters on my feet. I wore new shoes, without socks,on a 45 minute hike....Now I personally thought it was a good idea but noooo.=] I actually had socks on, but they were too small cause I grabbed one of my friends on accident. So they were really just extra annoying padding in the bottom of the shoe instead of socks.

It's probably not the shoes, it might be your socks. Ever think of that? You really remind me of my french teacher haha. Thats a compliment.

PS What shoe store is it that had you walk on the treadmill, I want to go there.

Phones are suckish, but the feet hurting thing sounds worse.

You may just have sensitive feet, but you should probably see a foot specialist about that... or not. I have grown up in Rochester, MN. The health (and banking) capital. So, that was my first thought...

Omg me too lol! I feel like screaming at everybody today but my list is way dumber than yours.
1) The gatorade machines at school weren't working today. Again.
2) My geometry teacher may be dying and is leaving school for a few weeks. This is really sad, but I'm not sure if it's what's really affecting me. Which makes me feel like a bad person.
3) I'm having problems with my parent's and their myspace phobias.

Maybe it's just a cranky day but the first thing I did when I got home was eat a spoonful of cookie dough and now I just had two brownies.
Oh! And I'm on my third of the same type of phone and it is breaking. Again. So now I'm going to have to choose a new phone and none of the others in my price range are cute.

My sister had really tender feet and had the hardest time breaking in hiking boots and walking shoes. (And yes, she had to break them in.) We believed it had to do with the fact that she was a competitive swimmer and lifeguard and spent so much time in water.

Anyway, what she used that really helped was moleskin. Put this on your heels where you routinely get blisters. It adds a little padding but, more importantly, reduces the friction that causes the blister. You can put it on your foot where you already have a blister/raw spot, but it works best if you put it on before a problem develops.

(Shall I tell you of the time that she got a blister while on a mountain climbing trip and it got infected and by the time we got off the mountain and to a doctor she was in such bad shape she had to take these huge pink horse pills for two weeks?)

Ally - Sorry to hear about your phone, but I had to laugh at this shoe stuff. Try some more brands of shoes, and maybe you need to be looking at some different socks? I am liking bamboo right now and also the ones you select by shoe size. Good luck.

My sister's feet are the same way! She can't find any shoes. Mine are kinda like that but not nearly as bad. I'm also in ballet and do pointe and such so I've learned a few tricks to not get blisters. There's this stuff called Blister Block (I think it's made by BandAid) and that helps a lot. My sister tried using it and it helps quite a bit. There are also blister bandaids... those always help...

try lacing your shoes a different way. the blister on the back of your heel/ankle area often comes from the friction caused by the heel of the shoe moving while you walk. by lacing it in an untraditional way, you can tighten the heel up without tightening the entire shoe. more explanation at the runner's world website: http://www.runnersworld.com/article/0,7120,s6-238-267--12334-0,00.html

hope this helps :)

Wow, I feel bad for you. I don't need to break in shoes. I buy them and then I wear them. They feel fine. Unless they're heels. I have to break in heels because THEY hurt. You're not that alone on the shoes thing. A couple of my cross country friends are often bleeding there by their heel/ankle at the back of their shoes. I don't know why it occurs, but other people have the problem too. That means somebody's more likely to solve the problem! Or it should...hope so, for your sake!
[but no, everybody doesn't have to wear in their shoes like that. O.o]
