Travel
It's one of the great misconceptions about writing that it is somehow glamorous. When the truth is that it isn't--not even a little.
Seriously.
I try and try and try to get people to believe me when I say that my job is basically looking at a whiteboard covered with sticky notes and/or a computer and/or big stacks of paper all day long.
While wearing my pajamas.
That's writing, folks.
But every once in a while you have a day or two where it really is what people THINK it is and today is sort of one of them because I'm writing this tonight from a REALLY nice hotel room.
How do I know it's a really nice hotel?
Exhibit...
A: There's an Armani store next door.
B: There's a separate shower and tub. I've never been in a hotel that didn't have a tub/shower combo.
C. The tub is large enough to do laps.
D. The lights are so fancy I still can't work them very well.
E. There are housecoats and fuzzy slippers and a DVD player. I might never leave.
F. Two words: honor bar
G. There's a window seat. If you ask me there are simply too few window seats in the world.
H. I'm pretty sure the chair I'm sitting in cost more than all the furniture in my house (sooooo not an exaggeration).
I. There is a bowl of fresh apples. But--get this--the apples aren't listed on the price list for the honor bar. So are the apples free? Would I be the biggest hick in the world if I called down to the front desk to ask if the apples are free?
J. I really want an apple.
I'm here for a lot of meetings and things--nothing relevant to you guys right now.
In the meantime, please keep reading (and remember, Alan Gratz's SOMETHING ROTTEN is available for free and will be our first ever book club book), and I'll be back to regular blogging soon I hope.

I'm pretty sure that the apples are free Ally. Your hotel room sounds amazing, I wish I could be there!
Hey Ally,
Welcome to the luxurious life, girl! Isn't it sweet?
My dad travels a lot and takes my whole family with him to the nice places and we always stay at really nice hotels. Like in San Francisco, we stayed at either the Hilton or the Marriott (I forget which one) and it was so nice! In the lobby, there was a massive globe and it was so beautiful!

that sounds like happiness on a stick. haha the apples sure sound free...then again, maybe you should google it just to be safe. haha i never thought i'd say that.enjoy your stay in the lap of luxury. the rest of us will just look on in envy and attempt to live vicariously through you.!

You won't be a hick. Do it! Call down about the apple!
So, I'm largely (if not completely) a lurker on your fabulous blog but I wanted to let you know I nominated you for an "I Love Your Blog" award. The info is on my blog - it's a pass-around award. I really enjoy your posts - thanks!
O my goodness. I read Something rotten and something wicked. THose are such good books. I read each one in about 24 hours and they were amazing, but in school were studieng Shakespeare, so I figured it all out pretty fast.
What kind of apple?
I would call down and ask about the apples if I were you. But that's just me.
apples sound good
That place sounds awesome. Did you have to pay for it? If not, that makes it ten times sweeter. And, seriously, I would be wondering the same thing about the apples too. :)
Wow, but your fruniture looked so great during the photo shoot that its hard to belive. My mom's allways saying how she wants to buy fruniture.
That hotel sounds awesome! I hope you're having fun!!

what is your book club? is there anyway to join? is it on you website?
i say you just eat an apple, i doubt they know exactly how many there are. and even if you do have to pay for it, it cant be that much...so i say go a head and eat your apple!
ADM! (Ay Dios Mio... It means OMG in spanish... just came up with it a week ago) that is soo cool!!!

Cool Ally! My advice for the apples, go for it. If they aren't listed, than you win on a technicality. I remember when i baby-sat in San Antonio last summer with some friends who are doctors and it was amazing. There were two separate bedrooms and a kitchen and 2 bathrooms and a "sitting room". Unfortunately, there were no window seats and in the bathroom, there was a shower-tub combination. Other than that it was pretty cool. Luckily their employer was paying for it all.
That's really cool!Well ally I know something way opposite to your hotel..I found out my hotel was kinda uh strange here's why-
1)There is a cementery nxt to us
2)the pool is outdoor but our nice neighboor is dead
3)I feel like I'am being watched..
4)THERE'S NO COMPLIMENTARY BREAKFAST!
5)my brother likes it.

Enjoy living in the lap of luxury, Ally! Here i'm just enjoying MORE homework.
Hey Ally, you should watch romancing the stone. Even if you already did, watch it again. Because it will teach you that even if you are a writer you can't just sit in your pjs all day writing. You need to go out there and live your life! Believe me, it's true.
Hiya! I know how you feel about the hotel! I love going to fancy hotels, especially when they have big huge windows.
Oh, and I have been wanting apples all day. I should have some...with caramel.
Yay, book club!!!
Have fun in the super-fancy hotel. But resist temptation to ride up and down the most-likely-glass elevators all day. And have an apple!
--Nadia
I don't care if you say writing isn't glamorous, I still want to be a writer. Besides, I can get all the glamour I need from my directing/acting career. (kidding)
Is anyone else here doing NaNoWriMo??? Just wondering...
WOW!!!! that sounds cool!!!!! i wish i could go somewhere that fancy!!! and YAY!!!!!! sooo we are doing the book club thing!?! :D
Wow! I didn't know that they made hotels that luxurious! I certainly haven't been in one. Sounds like a blast!

The only thing missing from your hotel room is a hot tub! :-) And they won't notice if one apple is gone (will they?)...

Completely random question: Which one is more practical--a fork or a spoon?
Kam
ooh, Ally, I SO want to be there right now. THat place sounds awesome. I always wanted a big bathtub. And ur right, there aren't enough window seats in the world. About the apples, just eat one, and if they charge you for it, argue valiently.
lol ally well hope you get your apple!
Haha that's so funny. That reminds me of the time I went to the beach with my friends and there was this table with a basket of pears on it. I took a pear and bit into it. It turned out to be a fake pear. My friends got a good kick out of that. They told everyone at school.
-Devin
Apples are free!
If you have a separate tub and shower, you are in the lap of luxury. The freaking lap, girl. Enjoy.
Teri
Your hotel room sounds soooo cool ally! it sucks though about the lights.
LOL! that happened to me once! I wish I could go to a hotel like that, it seems so nice. Is there somewhere to join that book club? I'll join if there is a way!
Ive been at 2 hotels , One stunk and the other had the best hot chocolate in the world !!!!! Even though it was summmer it was good.
Gosh I wish I could be there! The closest I've ever been is a condo that the toilet... you know what nevermind. You're gonna be like ewww. But have fun Ally.
This has basically nothing to do with your traveling but I just wanted to let you know. I'm dying for Don't Judge A Girl By Her Cover. I've been reading fanfiction to help my addiction but it's just not working. It's so hard to wait. I wish you could give us hints..
Where are you from? I am not stalking you. I want to know if you are a California author so I can write you up for My Group California Readers. I read your first books, am reading the sdecond and think my Middle School comittee would love them, but I have to find out if you live in Ca. I can not access your myspace from the school library where I work.
OMG you are soooo lucky!!! I didn't even know they had hotels with the shower and bath separate!!! Oh, I wanna stay in a hotel like that!! Enjoy!=D
